Winy Maas wins the Best of SHAPES award

April 9, 2026

The awards ceremony for the first edition of the Shapes of 2025 Awards took place in Prague. The awards, presented by SHAPES magazine, recognize projects and individuals in the fields of architecture, real estate development, design, and art. The awards were created as a selection by the magazine’s editorial team in collaboration with a panel of experts and encompass nine categories—ranging from interiors, residential and office buildings, and public projects to sustainability and leading figures in the field of architecture.

Grand Prize: Best of SHAPES

The awards also include the Best of SHAPES category, which is awarded directly by the magazine’s editorial team as the grand prize for the entire year. In this year’s inaugural edition, the award went to Dutch architect Winy Maas, co-founder of the MVRDV studio, who has also been teaching at ARCHIP in Prague for many years.

Winy Maas: Architect of the cities of the future

Winy Maas is an internationally renowned architect and urban planner, known for his innovative and sustainable approaches to urban design. His projects include, for example, the Markthal and Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam and the Crystal Houses in Amsterdam. He has been active in the Czech Republic for many years and is involved in a number of projects and teaching activities in Prague.

Award-winning projects across the architectural spectrum

The Shapes of 2025 Awards featured nine categories spanning the field—from small interiors to large-scale urban developments. The winners included, for example, Olgoj Chorchoj (Interior), Stempel & Tesař (Single-Family Home), A69 (Residential Development), Jakub Cigler Architekti (Office Building and Public Building), Chybik + Kristof (Hospitality), the Jabloneček project (Sustainability), and Radan Hubička (SHAPES Personality). The award-winning projects reflect current trends in architecture—an emphasis on sustainability, working with context, innovative approaches, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

A platform where architecture and business meet

The Shapes of 2025 Awards also serve as a platform for architects, designers, investors, and other industry stakeholders to connect. Their goal is not only to evaluate projects in a competitive context but also to foster discussion and networking across the professional community.
