Between Disciplines

September 15, 2026

Architecture doesn’t have to have boundaries

How can working with art and other disciplines change the way we think about architecture? This was the focus of the latest Research Tuesday with Ricardo Gomes of Lisbon-based KWY.studio.

Students, teachers and people from the wider architecture and design community came together at Viadukt Karlín. The venue was full, there was prosecco, and plenty of questions and conversations continued long after the lecture ended.

From Olafur Eliasson to KWY.studio

Ricardo Gomes presented his practice, which moves between architecture and art. He spoke about his experience working at Olafur Eliasson’s studio in Berlin, as well as his work through his own Lisbon-based practice, KWY.studio.

But the evening was not only about individual projects. Ricardo explored the importance of collaboration and ongoing research in his work. A process that does not end with a single project, but keeps opening up new questions and possibilities.

A space to meet and exchange

“Research Tuesday is a space where different experiences and perspectives on architecture can meet. For students, it is important to see that architectural practice can take many forms, and that working with other disciplines can open up completely new ways of thinking,” says Helena Čapková, who organizes the Research Tuesday series at ARCHIP.

That is what Research Tuesday is all about. Meeting people from the field, hearing about their experiences, asking questions, and continuing the conversation beyond the classroom. The events are open to ARCHIP students and the public. Welcoming anyone interested in architecture, design, and new ways of thinking about them.

Thank you to Ricardo Gomes for an inspiring evening, and to everyone who joined us. We look forward to the next Research Tuesday!
