On Tuesday, October 13, students from Zuzana Drahotová’s master’s studio at ARCHIP presented their architectural concepts directly at Prague Castle. The presentation, held at one of the most significant historic sites in the Czech Republic, offered students a unique opportunity to meet with leading architects such as Jakub Fišer as well as representatives of Prague Castle.

Contemporary architecture in a historical context

This semester, Zuzana Drahotová’s studio is focusing on the transformation of the Prague Castle Riding Hall and its relationship to the surrounding environment and public space. “Students are exploring ways to connect contemporary architectural approaches with the historical context and to design solutions that respect the unique character of the site while responding to the needs of today’s society,” says Zuzana Drahotová, who teaches the course “Architectural Design” at ARCHIP.

Expert discussion and feedback

The presentations were followed by a professional discussion with external critics: Jakub Fišer from the Aulík Fišer Zalabák Architects studio, Regina Loukotová, rector of ARCHIP, Sean Clifton, an ARCHIP faculty member and director of NATURA Architects, and Kateřina Špičková and Zuzana Hebronová, representatives of Prague Castle.

“The close connection between the studio and real-world architectural practice is one of the fundamental pillars of ARCHIP. The opportunity to present student designs at Prague Castle adds an exceptional dimension to this collaboration,” says Regina Loukotová, rector of ARCHIP.

Linking education with architectural practice

The meeting offered students the opportunity to gain new perspectives, critically examine their concepts, and further develop their own approach to architectural design. At the same time, it underscored the importance of collaboration between the academic sphere, architectural practice, and institutions that care for our cultural heritage.

ARCHIP thanks all participating experts and representatives of Prague Castle for their time, stimulating discussion, and valuable feedback.
