FUTURE / ISMS I

October 30, 2-3 November 2026

International Symposium / Prague / 30 October, 2-3 November 2026

How have visions of the future shaped architecture, art, and cultural imagination-and what can those visions offer us today?

ARCHIP – Architectural Institute in Prague and the Department of Art History, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, invite you to the inaugural FUTURE / ISMS I symposium. Sessions will take place at Viaduct Karlin, Prague, on 30 October and 2 November 2026, followed by an evening lecture on 3 November.

Held in a hybrid format, the event welcomes scholars, architects, artists, students, and the wider public, both in person and online.

The symposium will be livestreamed on ARCHIP’s YouTube channel.

The symposium launches an ongoing interdisciplinary research initiative examining the legacies of Futurism and the place of future-oriented thinking in contemporary architectural practice, theory, and cultural debate. It asks how earlier ambitions for technological, artistic, and social transformation might inform-and challenge-our understanding of the future today.

This first edition centres on historical Futurism and its transnational connections, with particular attention to exchanges between Italy, Czechoslovakia and Japan. Through architectural proposals, artistic experiments, and intellectual networks, participants will explore how Futurist ideas travelled, acquired new meanings, and generated distinct responses in different cultural and political settings.
